An update on the current state and results of the project.

The official registration of the Community Based Organisation (CBO) of Choma village has been done. The official name of the CBO is KIMIMCHO. Congratulations to secretary Abi who has been the driving force behind the registration. It took him several trips to Dar es Salaam and a lot of perseverance and patience to get it done. KIMIMCHO has a firm management structure and procedures to successfully run the project and any other community projects they want to take on in the future. Already, KIMIMCHO has been selected by Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT), a local Morogoro based ngo that promotes organic agriculture. Farmers from Choma will be trained by SAT. Importantly, KIMIMCHO also has opened a bank account to transparently manage the generated income.

The achievements in the Community Based Touristic project are the following. The campsite has been prepared by the community members. This required levelling of the terrain to accommodate space for a kitchen, a toilet, a shower, 2 kibandas, 4 canvas tents and a number of trekking tents. Some trees, plants and flowers have been planted to make the campsite extra attractive.
The following materials have been purchased for the construction of the kitchen, the toilet, the shower and the kibandas: metal roof sheets, wooden poles, timber, roof nails, other nails, cement and water pipe. So far, two kibandas with thatched roofs and concrete floors have been constructed.
The project also got a donation of a 3 person trekking tent.
KIMIMCHO has already started promoting their campsite and has received several paying visitors. Visitors bring their own tent or hire the project’s donated tent. KIMIMCHO offered the following activities and services to the visitors: trips to the waterfalls, trips to the nearby rainforest with certified guide, visits to local farm fields with possibility to help on the farm, demonstration of local Luguru dance and music. The visitors have given positive feed-back and were impressed by the beauty of the area.

The most urgent to further develop the project are the establishment of a proper toilet and shower on the campsite. The 500 euro donated to the project via the 1% percent club will therefore be used for buying locally made bricks, a 2000 liter water tank, 2 doors, toilet pot, lavabo and shower equipment. The water pipe to transport water to the site has already been bought. Establishment of a toilet and shower will greatly improve the attractiveness of the campsite.
