Projectbeschrijving
Our project is to provide the rural farmers in Muea/Lysoka village communities with storehouse/mini-mart facility in a bid to facilitate their access to better markets and promote agricultural market development.
Farmers living in rural communities usually are forced to walk great distances to reach urban markets where they hope to sell their produce at better prices. These markets are usually dirty and disorganized. Farmers are forced to sell at low prices as a result of poor handling and the fear of having to carry their produce back home since they lack a storage facility.
We believe providing farmers with a storehouse facility will not only improve on their bargaining power and facilitate access to better markets, but will also encourage them to boost productivity and quality of their produce.
The project is executed by a Common Initiative Group (CIG) AGRO-HUB that works in collaboration with other farmers’ groups on a shared purpose to deliver new services to new and existing customers in the agricultural sector of Cameroon.

Project doelgroep(en)
Rural smallholder farmers (in the area of project execution) are our target group. These are the farmers who are greatly hit by the effects of disorganized markets and unscrupulous middlemen.
Through this project, we will provide them with a storehouse to serve as both a collecting point and market center for their produce. Farmers will no longer worry about where they will store excesses after selling on a market day, they will be protected from unscrupulous middlemen, and may not need to worry about seeking customers for their produce.
Direct beneficiaries of the project include at least 80 rural farmers and indirect beneficiaries include 1300 farmers with their families living around the project area.
Op welke manier draagt het project bij aan het oplossen van armoede?
Through this project, we will provide a storehouse that will serve as a collecting point and a market center where farmers are expected to sell at better prices and hence increase household income and reduce poverty.
Duurzaamheid
We employ the following strategies to ensure sustainability of the project:
(1) The project will be jointly managed by the farmers and our organization AGRO-HUB as the lead. Sons and daughters of the community will be hired to run the day to day affairs of the storehouse.
(2) A very small charge will be levied to all users (initially estimated at 80) of the storehouse so as to raise funds to cover the running cost after a year.
(3) Farmers who actively use and contribute to the growth of the storehouse will be paid loyalties – in the form of cash or farm subsidies – at the beginning of every planting season.
A possible anticipated risk is what happens during a bumper harvest when there is plenty of food supplied to the storehouse. To this end, it is AGRO-HUB’s duty to actively seek customers at home and abroad. Looking at the food security map of the world, we believe there shall always be more demand for food than it is supplied; so the real challenge is to raise awareness of what is available so we can have a consistent demand for the crops in the storehouse.
