The RLabs Innovation Incubator is a space where the community are able to develop ideas that will have a social and sustainable impact on communities locally and globally.
Geld nodig voor:
The Innovation Incubator at the moment is an empty room with security gates and requires a major rework to change it into a creative space of hope.
Reconstructed Living Lab (RLabs), a registered Non-profit organisation, offers the local community an opportunity to enhance their skills through the use of various technology programmes specially developed to support the needs of the citizens.
Currently we have a staff of 18 people working full time. We are based in Cape Town South Africa.

RLabs, based in Bridgetown (Cape Town) recently also launch its Community Innovation Academy (CIA) where workshops, training, resources and mentorship are made available to community members with innovative ideas and technologies that will have a social impact and create employment. The ideas that are birthed in the CIA are then nurtured in the Innovation Incubator where it is developed to be scalable and sustainable and then taken to market.
Through innovation communities can address fundamental issues such as health, education, etc. to enhance economic growth and improve the quality of life. RLabs is a testament to a bottom-up approach to social innovation. Through the above initiatives more than 250,000 community members were supported using mobile phones as a counselling medium and RLabs gave birth to its first global product JamiiX (“Social Exchange”) that featured at TEDxAmsterdam in 2010.
- create a workable space where community members could grow their ideas into products and projects that will have a social impact.
Long term goal:
- Developing a culture of Social Innovation in the community to address local and global problems based on collaboration.
Community members where their well being are being threatened. Currently supporting through our mobile system 250,000 community members.
1) The project will create employment opportunities through the projects and products created in the incubator.
2) The products and projects will address social issues and provide empowerment to the communities reached through these activities.
Due to the nature of the project the products and projects will allow RLabs to sustain the activities in the community.
